Whole Chain Tech revealed a key research and development breakthrough for its new lightweight hook lift system, a solution built exclusively for Type II pickup chassis loading and unloading use cases. The new technology fills a long-standing gap in the light commercial vehicle market, where low-cost, lightweight hook lift systems designed specifically for smaller transport platforms are currently unavailable.
Traditional hook lift systems available on the market are almost universally built for heavy-duty commercial trucks, with a minimum self-weight of 400kg and support only for cargo loads above 3 tons. These systems are entirely unsuitable for Type II pickup chassis, which are widely used by small farm operators, independent construction teams, and outdoor enthusiasts for short-distance, small-batch cargo transport. Whole Chain Tech’s in-development system solves this common pain point through optimized hydraulic structural design and high-strength lightweight material applications: the complete hook lift system weighs only 120kg, 70% lighter than traditional heavy-duty hook lift products, while supporting a maximum load of 1.8 tons and compatible with standard cargo boxes ranging from 1.5m to 2.2m in length. The fully automated system completes full cargo box loading or unloading in 30 seconds, operated entirely by a single user with no requirement for additional forklifts or auxiliary equipment.
The R&D team confirmed that the technology has already completed 1,000 consecutive failure-free lifting tests under controlled lab conditions, and passed simulated extreme environment performance testing across a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, with zero recorded hydraulic system leakage, placing its performance on par with industry-leading heavy-duty hook lift systems. The next 6 months of the R&D phase will focus on field prototype testing and adaptation optimization for all mainstream Type II pickup chassis models sold in domestic and global markets, with a core development priority that the system can be installed directly on standard Type II pickup chassis without any modification to the original chassis structure, lowering installation cost and barriers for end users.
The technology is built exclusively for Type II pickup chassis loading and unloading operations, a fast-growing market segment that currently has no mature dedicated hook lift solutions. Many small farm operators, construction team owners, and outdoor recreational users rely on Type II pickup chassis for daily cargo transport, but loading and unloading heavy cargo previously required either forklift support or labor-intensive manual handling, which is particularly inconvenient in remote operation areas with no supporting equipment. Once officially launched, Whole Chain Tech’s hook lift system will support fully automatic loading and unloading of standard cargo boxes, tool cabinets, small construction equipment, and even customized camping storage boxes, greatly expanding the practical application scenarios of pickup transport for both business and recreational use.
“We launched this internal R&D project 8 months ago after repeatedly hearing feedback from small business and individual pickup users that there were no affordable, lightweight hook lift options available for their needs,” said Mr.Li, R&D Director at Whole Chain Tech. “Nearly all hook lift products on the market are designed for large logistics fleets running heavy-duty trucks, leaving small operators and individual users with no cost-effective automated loading solutions. We’re still in the active development phase and won’t rush the product to market, we’ll complete full field validation and optimization first to ensure the final product is stable and reliable enough for long-term daily use.”
The company expects to officially launch the mass production version of the lightweight hook lift system for Type II pickup chassis between late 2026 and early 2027. The team has already received pre-launch inquiry interest from more than 10 domestic pickup modification studios and small logistics operators who are looking for a lightweight, low-cost hook lift solution for their fleets.
As a specialized trailer and cargo box solution provider, this R&D breakthrough further demonstrates Whole Chain Tech’s technical capabilities in the light transport equipment segment. The company will continue to focus on solving unmet needs in small and medium-sized transport scenarios, developing practical, affordable solutions for both domestic and global users.
